Case Study: Wound therapeutics textile line

Case study: Wound therapeutics textile line
Client: Medical technology
Project: Wound therapeutics textile line

Contract Scope:

The Boulting Group carried out the complete design and construction of a new IS0 8 cleanroom within an existing portal-framed building.

Acting as designer, principal contractor and planning supervisor under the CDM regulations, we were responsible for health and safety for the complete project, including supervising and co-ordinating the installation of client's equipment.

The project was carried out within a challenging 14-week programme, including full validation services.

As the specialist design and build contractor, our scope included design, construction, commissioning and validation support for the complete turnkey project.

Work was undertaken within an existing facility, and maintaining access routes through the building during construction works required careful management.

The internal fit-out comprised the erection of insulated metal-faced wall panels to form a main IS0 8 cleanroom, together with airlocks and changing areas, designed to allow the correct flow of personnel and materials through the facility. Internally, floors were finished with welded vinyl, coved and capped.

The ceiling system matches the walls in construction, colour and appearance, designed to provide a walk-on deck to enable access to services, and was completed by the installation of perimeter hand-railing and access ladder.

The HVAC system incorporated a single air-handling unit to carry out all necessary heating, cooling and filtration of the air supply. Air is re-circulated and mixed with fresh air to provide the required room pressurisation. Supply air conditions are controlled to closely maintain environmental conditions within the suite.

Power, lighting and fire alarm systems were provided as part of the new electrical distribution system.

The completed facility was commissioned and validated, including writing and executing design, installation and operational qualifications.
