Survival of the Newts!
26/4/2011
In 2007, Johnson Matthey Catalysts commenced Project Mustang on their existing site in Clitheroe Lancashire. For the project to go ahead, it required the relocation of an existing pond, thus protecting the nature in the surrounding area.
Con
struction was completed approx June 2009, however, concern was expressed when several Newts & Frogs were observed on the roadways around Mustang in their quest to find their natural habitat which no longer existed. In aid of helping this new habitat survive and flourish a team of kind hearted Boulting men showed their support by dedicating their break times to search for and return any pond life that escaped the new pond.
At a later date it was also identified that fish were struggling to live and breed in the new habitat so one generous employee, Martin Highe, introduced several fish including Gold Carp, Brown carp and small other fish, which continue to thrive despite the cold winter. On recognising that the heavy rainfall was causing the river banks to burst, and in further concern for the fish, the Boultng
Employees also put in hard work to raise and barricade one end of the pond.
Regular visits and maintenance is still going on to present day to help with all the natural wild life around.
We would liek to say a big well done and thank you to the Boulting Personnel involved in supporting this project:
Martin Highe, Terry O'Hanlon, Jim Scales, Sean Power and Tommy Hazard.
