Electrical Control Systems - Hardware Test Engineer

The position involves the testing of Low Voltage Motor Control Centres (MCCs), Starters/Control Panels, PLC/ICA Sections, LV Switchboards and Distribution Boards for large blue-chip clients to the highest standards of quality and Health and Safety.

Based from Boulting Penketh workshops, but works will be required on client sites (this may require lodging out of town,) carrying out fault finding and testing site modifications / carrying out surveys of existing control systems.

Principal Accountabilities

It is essential to demonstrate technical expertise to be able to test from schematic diagrams various types of MCCs, LV Switchboards, Control Panels, Starters (of all control methods i.e. DOL, Star/Delta, VSDs etc.) and Instrumentation and Control i.e PLCs, 4-20mA Loops, Level and Pressure etc. A good knowledge of electrical control and protection, electrical distribution theory and cable sizing will also be required.

The ability to liaise directly with clients to enable the conducting of in house integration tests / client FATs.

Works will be required on client sites testing site modifications / carrying out Site Acceptance Tests / carrying out site visits to reported faults / carrying out surveys of existing control systems.

Qualifications, skills and experience

Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills with both internal and external clients, an ability to understand and solve problems.

Able to demonstrate a proven track record in testing electrical control systems with a technical knowledge of complex projects, including system integration.

Fully time served with the relevant Electrical and Testing qualifications.

Health & Safety Passports

Good computer skills and be conversant in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Hold a full UK driving license as the position involves travel throughout the UK. It may be necessary as part of working on particular projects for you to work on clients sites and spend some nights away from the office / home to carry out testing / surveys on a variety of electrical panels.
